English Literature and Language

Hello! My name is Meg, and I am in my final year reading English literature and language. For my project, I will be working with schools that support children and young adults with ASD to work to enhance support towards higher education for neurodivergents. Evaluating my experience of university as an autistic with dyspraxia, I will consider what life skills and support should be offered to those on the spectrum, aiming to make higher education more accessible. Autism is misunderstood and the change to university can be terrifying: devising coping mechanisms, consideration of expectation, and setting up a buddy-support system with other neurodivergent people is imperative to increasing access within higher education; this not only familiarises people with the logistics of university, but also helps children with ASD embarking on their educational journey feel less alone in the way they perceive and interact with the world. Increasing access to education is very important to me and working with children with disabilities at Make A Smile has been foundational in my desire to make change. I have also been a member of Balliol’s chapel choir, as well as working for three of Oxford’s student newspapers and magazines. I am very excited to explore America and meet old members of college!
