Balliol alumni at a Gaudy

Your Benefits

There are many benefits available to you as an Old Member of Balliol, some offered by the College and others by the University. Below is an overview. For more, see the webpages about Balliol publicationse-Newsletter and merchandise, and explore the Oxford alumni web pages.

For some benefits you will need an Oxford Alumni Card, which identifies you to those on University and college premises, and when claiming discounts and other services.

Visiting Balliol

Old Members are allowed free entry to both the Broad Street site and Holywell Manor; they are not subject to tourist opening hours. There is no need to give notice. Please report to the Lodge and tell them that you are an Old Member. It is helpful for the porters, though not essential, if you can show your alumni card.

Dining in College

Any Old Member is welcome to dine in Hall at lunchtime during term-time between 12.30 and 1.30pm and in the evening between 6.30 and 7.30pm (except on Tuesdays when dinner is between 6.15 and 7.15pm). There is no need to book in advance, although we suggest checking with us first if you are planning to visit, as from time to time meals are cancelled because of other College events. Meals can be paid for in cash on the day.

Staying in College

Why not book a College room when you next find yourself in Oxford? Old Members can book overnight accommodation at favourable rates. Find out more here

Weddings in Chapel

The Chapel is available to Old Members for their wedding or religious service after civil marriage.

Lifelong learning

All Oxford alumni are entitled to apply for free admission to Oxford library services.

There are a number of free online resources available to alumni for further learning, including podcasts, the University of Oxford on i-Tunes, the Oxford Index (for access to Oxford’s digital academic content), and resources for developing your IT skills.

In partnership with the Bodleian Library, all Oxford alumni receive remote access to the JSTOR collection of online journals

Alumni can attend courses at the Department for Continuing Education and benefit from a discount on course fees. There are alumni discounts at the Oxford University Language Centre and the Ruskin School of Art. Alumni are also entitled to attend some Oxford lectures and seminars.

Unfortunately Balliol Library is unable to offer library access to Old Members, although the Librarian is always pleased to receive enquiries or hear from Old Members who wish to make an appointment on a particular matter, or to view materials in the collection: email library@balliol.ox.ac.uk.

Other alumni offers

There are a great range of other offers and discounts available to Oxford alumni, at Oxford shops, restaurants, places to stay, museums and other local visitor attractions.
