Last year, I worked on a photo essay about the people running my local newspaper. Photographing 'The Archer's voluntary reporters was a fantastic way to discover both the stories that characterise my small area of London and meet the people that tell them. This summer, I'd like to explore the small towns and urban communities of the Missouri and Mississippi river in the same way. Through portraits, street photography and recorded interviews, I'll be examining patterns and variations in the way local news is presented. Past pathfinders have warned me that after weeks of travelling, places can begin to blur into one - I'm hoping to counter this by focusing on the news stories and urban legends that residents feel characterise their area. I'm hoping to spend a month in America, leaving as soon as term ends in order to be back in England for Jury Service by July 18th.
