Italian and Spanish

Hello! I’m Bethan and I’m a finalist studying Spanish and Italian. Aside from foreign literature, I have pursued many interests at Oxford, including writing and editing for student newspapers, becoming Vice-Captain of Balliol netball team, volunteering for Turl Street Homeless Action, and working as a bartender. Above all, I love to perform, and have taken every opportunity to do so, from Shakespeare at the Oxford Castle to musicals at the Oxford Playhouse, singing everything from Mozart to Sondheim to funk covers with my band. I hope to study performing arts at a postgraduate level, and I’m extending this interest to my Pathfinders Project: a comparative study of performance practises in the US and Canada, from Broadway productions to Québécois folk music. I spent last year abroad, living first in Rome, and then with a host family in Mexico City, working as a translator and arts assistant (and occasionally recording audio guides for the Palacio de Bellas Artes). I’m excited to keep learning about new cultures and forming connections with people around the world.
