2023 Classical Archaeology and Ancient History Hello! I’m Oli, a finalist in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History. I grew up in Norwich, in Norfolk, although my family’s roots are originally from Wales, and I am really looking forward to visiting North America and meet Balliol alumni along my travels! Being at Balliol over the last three years has been a wonderful experience and the memories and friendships I have made here are things I will carry with me for the rest of my life! I can safely say that getting stuck into various aspects of college life, from the rugby team (despite our lack of silverware…) to serving as Ball secretary, the Balliol community has shaped me into the person I am today. My project revolves around ideas of belonging and community identity, what binds people together and how different groups choose to define themselves. Having rarely travelled out of Europe, I’m excited at opportunity experiencing the potential cultural differences first-hand and am thrilled to be able to gain new perspectives, all whilst visiting new places and meeting new people.
