History

Hi! I’m Megan, currently enjoying my final year as a Balliol historian. My time here has been nothing short of incredible – I just can’t quite believe it has almost come to an end! Throughout my time at Oxford, I have served as President of the Dervorguilla Society and Social Secretary of Balliol Netball Team. I have also been involved in all sorts of other projects, from Oxford Consulting Initiative to Balliol’s 2023 Commemoration Ball.

I am extremely excited and grateful to have been offered a William Westermann Pathfinders Award, which has not only gifted me the opportunity to connect with Balliol alumni, but also to embark on a meaningful research project. On my travels, I hope to explore perceptions of disability throughout Asia. This builds upon my previous research on deafness and disability in Britain, which I am now keen to expand into a broader, international framework. My aim is to investigate how different Asian cultures perceive and respond to disability, striving to unearth the underlying factors behind these perceptions and stereotypes, and hopefully, to contribute towards progressive change.

I am really looking forward to the journey ahead – getting stuck into my research, exploring Asia, and uncovering some college stories along the way!
