2020 Mathematics and Philosophy Hi there, I'm Matthew. This summer, I'll be heading to North America following the completion of my MMathPhil. My current focus is on researching non-standard probability theories. While in North America, I plan to spend some time in the mountains, possibly Colorado's 14ers, and the Cascade Range in Washington. My project involves examining the differing attitudes towards climbing and mountaineering between the UK and the US, including how the legal aspects of access affect personal enjoyment. Additionally, I'm interested in participating in choral church services, and will be reaching out to choirs to explore opportunities to join for a service or two. During my time at Balliol, I've been actively involved in a wide range of activities, such as serving as the treasurer on the JCR committee, singing in choir, composing music for the charity musical, and running the poker society. I'm excited to meet and get to know Balliol alumni; I look forward to being actively engaged in the alumni community, and Pathfinders is going to be a fantastic start to that!
