2021 History and English Hello! My name is Lilia, a History and English finalist, and I am very excited to be travelling to North America this summer. Being at Balliol has fostered my growth and confidence – both academically and personally – and I enjoy paying forward the invaluable enrichment to my life through my involvement in college life. In my roles on JCR committee as Ethnic Minority Officer and Vice-President, as well as being a history subject parent, an outreach ambassador, and on the Pilch committee, I have learned so much about myself. Being here has also allowed me to reconnect with my creative side and above all, I have loved acting and getting involved in student drama productions. For my Pathfinder’s project, I want to continue this creative journey and challenge myself to make a documentary exploring how contemporary music scenes intertwine with the varied and rich histories in North America. I have always loved travelling and connecting with places by immersing myself in local cultures rather than tourist hotspots. Being able to meet and connect with so many people is another highlight of being part of the vast Balliol community, and I am very excited to meet alumni and hear their insights into my project and beyond!
