2023 English Language and Literature Hello! I'm Kitty. I'm currently in my final year studying English Literature, but once I've handed my keys to the Porters' lodge and clattered my case onto Broad Street, I'll be headed for Asia! My time at Balliol has been simply smashing. Alongside a world-class education, Balliol has equipped me with confidence to engage with the fizz and flaws of the world beyond its historic walls. I cherish the network of friends I have here, and have thrown myself into Telethon, offer-holder days, and shifts at the Lindsay Bar to connect with prospective students and alumni. Growing up in rural Dorset has made me unfussy, hardy and unafraid of getting stuck in. I was President of Oxford's West Country Society and organised traditional craft classes and discussions on sustainable values. I even had our former Master, Andrew Graham, sipping cider at a tasting seminar! On my travels, I'm keen to witness the culture of textile craftsmanship and ownership in Asia. I'd be thrilled to learn about traditions and processes of clothing manufacture, such as hand-dyeing, stitching, and weaving, and to document how this tangible connection can foster an appreciation for the power and beauty of caring for the clothes we wear. I am deeply grateful to be hosted by those who share my enthusiasm for the institution I most admire.
