2021 English Language and Literature Hello! My name is Jess, and I am an English Language and Literature finalist. I am excited to travel to America and Canada this summer with Pathfinders and meet Balliol alumni! My time in Oxford has been transformative and immensely fun. I have been involved in Balliol and wider University life at every level; I was Vice President for Balliol Ball, and worked on the Garden Party in 2022; I was sports rep on the Balliol JCR, and played almost every cuppers sport; I have worked for Balliol at the bar and in outreach events; I was the Captain of the Women’s football Blues team in my second year, earning a Full Blue each year and working on the committee; I worked on the student film Breakwater; and I was a writer and editor for the Cherwell. My project will explore the new professional women’s football league currently being established in Canada (called Project 8) and how it is learning from America’s NWSL, the UK’s WSL, and how the professionalization of women’s sport will change the dialogue and landscape for women’s athletes across the world.
