2021 English Language and Literature Hello! I’m Isaac and I’m currently in the final year of my BA in English at Balliol. I’ve had a wonderful time over the course of my degree, and have thrown myself into all aspects of College life, including speaking regularly at A&B, directing and producing the Charity Musical, playing football (badly), and editing Cherwell last year. I can’t wait to travel to Japan this summer—it’s a part of the world I’ve never visited, and I am so excited to immerse myself in its culture over the course of my visit. My project will explore the growth of Medieval English studies as an academic field in Japan’s universities, which I hope will illuminate not only the differences between the academic cultures of the UK and Japan, but also their cultural resonances. Over my time in Oxford, I’ve profited so much from the lovely Balliol community, and I’m looking forward to meeting Old Members over my trip!
