2023 PPE Hi! I’m Harvey, a PPE finalist and I’m super excited to travel to the United States this summer and meet some amazing Balliol alumni! Originally from Melbourne, Australia, I moved over in 2023 and have absolutely loved my time in the UK. At Balliol, I’ve met new people, enjoyed new aspects of life, and learnt new things about myself. Some of my fondest memories are playing football, rugby and cricket for the college, working in the Lindsay Bar, and sitting with friends on the grass in back quad in the sun. Balliol has really been a transformative experience for me, and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to spend three years here. The energy and enthusiasm with which the Americans I’ve met approach life has always impressed me. My project is to write about the cultural difference in the way ambition and hope are perceived across the Atlantic and how this relates to the vision of the American Dream that is the subject of so many of the books and films I have been raised upon. I can’t wait to spend some time exploring the US and encountering different perspectives on this hugely generous program.
