2021 PPE Hello! I’m Callum, a PPE finalist. I’ve tried to get involved with as much as possible during my time at Balliol- I’ve run the Balliol student restaurant, played for the college football team, and helped out with outreach. I can’t wait to meet some Balliol alumni and hear all the great stories from their time at college. My project is focusing on how different people form their personal identity based on what’s important to them. More specifically, do people see themselves as foremost defined by their membership of some group - religious, political, or social -, their activity - their work and hobbies -, or something else - their family and upbringing, where they live, or their values. In doing so, I want to visit as many different areas of the US as possible. It will be interesting to see whether there is any connection between how people identify and the communities within which they live. Most importantly, though, my project will hopefully get me speaking to as many people as possible!
