It would have been impossible to undertake my doctoral studies at Oxford without the support provided by my Scholarship. As a first-generation graduate from a state school in the North East of England, it was a major confidence boost that Balliol and its Old Members believed in me and my research enough to fund me throughout the duration of my degree. I am extremely grateful for your support.
In the final year of my DPhil, I also received financial assistance from the Balliol Support Grant. My studies had been prolonged for a number of reasons, making the latter stages particularly difficult. Being the recipient of such generous support meant a lot to me and made this period much more manageable.
During my studies, I also received various grants to cover the otherwise prohibitive costs of buying books, undertaking extra training, and attending conferences, which were key to furthering my academic career. With your support, I had the privilege of presenting my research, organising panels, and meeting collaborators at such conferences. I am now beginning a Departmental Lectureship in the English Faculty here at Oxford, teaching students (including those from Balliol!) about the literature and language of medieval England.
