Like many others, my plans for this year were disrupted by the onset of Covid-19. In particular, its effects on my finances were considerable, both in terms of removing sources of income I had expected, as well as introducing expenditure I had not foreseen. I was very fortunate therefore to be a recipient of Balliol's maintenance grant. It came at a time when I was struggling to cope, and it has made a real difference. Without support of this kind, I would have had to take on more paid work than I already have, which would undoubtedly have affected my studies. I am very grateful for the help I have received, and I hope that Old Members will continue to contribute to this important fund.
