Once again we are delighted to be inviting Old Members and their guests to a weekend of activity in York, kindly arranged by Allen Warren (1964).

Friday, 10 October 2014

8:00 pm: Dinner at Ask Restaurant (optional)
The Assembly Rooms, Blake Street, York YO1 8QG.
Lord Burlington's Assembly Rooms, now an Ask Restaurant. Please register your interest and a table will be reserved to accommodate the party.

Saturday, 11 October 2014

Morning and afternoon:

9.15am - 4.30pm: Day Trip by coach to Newby Hall, near Ripon. The coach will now depart from Memorial Gardens.

- VIP tour of the late 17th Century house icluding its famous tapestry room and one of the finest antique sculpture galleries in the country. Includes a talk by Allen Warren.

- Pub lunch nearby (included in cost).

- Return to the estate to walk around the wonderful 20th Century gardens and visit the Church of Christ the Consoler, a very fine example of William Burges' architecture.

- Coach back to York.

OR

Free morning in York for those arriving that morning or wishining to self-plan, followed by:

3.30pm: Afternoon talk and guided tour of York Minster, including elements of the current major project to restore the Great East Window.

Other attractions include: The National Railway Museum; Jorvik Viking Centre; York Castle Museum; Fairfax House.

Evening:

5.15pm: Evensong at the Minster.

7.00pm for 7.45pm: Reception and Dinner at the Merchant Taylors Hall, York.

A very fine early 15th Century hall of the company of the Merchant Taylors of York. The Merchant Taylors is one of only three livery companies in the city with a continuous existence since the later Middle Ages, with traditions of fraternity and support for modern tailoring and fashion trades.

Dress code: lounge suits.
