NEW COLLEGE SOCIETY ENTREPRENEURS

NETWORK INAUGURAL EVENT

The New College Society has recently established a new network to link former students who have become entrepreneurs since leaving college.

As part of this launch, we will also be hosting an inaugural drinks reception on Tuesday 27 June at The Upper Deck, 18th Floor, Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London, SW1P 4QP (map) from 6.00pm.

The new Warden, Miles Young (who was formerly Chairman and Chief Executive of Ogilvy & Mather), will be joining the reception.

Please indicate your attendance to Jonathan Rubery in the New College Development Office on jonathan.rubery@new.ox.ac.uk, no later than Tuesday 20 June 2017.

We very much hope you might be able to make the event and please do contact and pass this on to any others who could be keen to join you. This initiative is already being enthusiastically supported by Peter Rands (1999), Al Hearn (2001), Charlie Taylor (1997) and Jalin Somaiya (1996). More detail below.

We look forward to seeing you on the evening.

About The New College Society and the Entrepreneurs Network

The New College Society retains and develops links with Old Members of the college. Historically this has been primarily through the organisation of various social events. In more recent years the committee has begun to develop a series of networks to help link past members within their business sectors or interests. Four networks have been established to date being City and Professional, Government and Public Service, Life Sciences and Media. Stemming from these has also been a growing initiative to offer careers guidance for current students from Old Members and the Society now organises a careers fair in Hall in early November covering a wide variety of sectors.

The New College Society Committee believes that there would be a real interest in connecting Old Members who have become entrepreneurs. This would be an opportunity to share ideas, experiences, challenges and contacts in an informal way. In addition we felt such a network could be of real benefit to current students who might be keen to understand the opportunities and risks of establishing their own business.

Given its very nature there is no wish to be too prescriptive about who this network should include. We would therefore welcome all entrepreneurs from New College - those who have taken the risk of starting their own business or holding a significant stake in the one where they work. We would also include senior executives who work with founders, particularly where they have a stake but ultimately, we want to include anyone with a serious interest in this space.

This initiative has already started with the help of a small number of Old Members working in their own early stage businesses who have shared their own personal networks to help develop a list of potential members along with the college’s Development Office. It is fair to say there are a good many well-known and very successful entrepreneurs amongst the College's ranks. However, as names are hard to identify, we would be grateful if you could pass this on to any of your own New College connections who might like to become part of the network and attend the drinks reception.
