Frequently Asked Questions

If you're having problems using this website then one of these answers may help.

I'm retired/on a career break, how do I complete the update form?

If you are retired, or otherwise not in employment, we are currently waiting for a fix to the system to allow you to submit this information. In the meantime, please:

  • In 3. Employment history, select 'UK' for the country field
  • At the bottom of the update form, fill in the information box in '6. Community searches and other information' where you can specify whether you are retired or on some sort of career break.

You should then be able to submit the form without any further problems.

I'm trying to update my details, but it won't let me submit the form

This is likely to be because there is a required field which has not been filled in. The most likely culprit is the 'country' field under '3. Employment details'. Please ensure that you've entered a country here, even if you don't enter anything else. Unfortunately, the system is requiring us to do this at the moment - the supplier is working on a solution so that in future you will not need to include any employment information if you don't want to in order to submit an address update, or similar.

If you are retired, or otherwise not in Employment, please select 'UK' for this field and then at the bottom of the update form, fill in the information box in '6. Community searches and other information' where you can specify whether you are retired or on some sort of career break.

You should then be able to submit the form without any further problems.

I'm receiving an 'Authentication Failed' page

There are a number of possible reasons for this:

1. You tried to log-in a couple of times, before you submitted a new user registration form

Are you sure you're using the right username and password? If you can't remember your password you can use the link beneath the log-in form to have your user name and a password reminder sent to you.

I'm having difficulty registering

You need to ensure that you complete all of the required fields and also tick to indicate that you have read and agreed to the terms and conditions of use before your registration can be submitted.

If you have completed all of the fields but are still having problems:

  • Are you inputting your new Oxford Alumni Card number? This is the number that appears on your new plastic Card (issued with the Hilary 2010 Oxford Today magazine), which begins '8-'. The number has also appears on the the reverse of your Oxford Today cover sheets. If you can't find your number, please contact the Alumni Office.
  • Still not submitting? Please contact the Database Team at database@devoff.ox.ac.uk with the subject 'Online Registration problem' and including any error messages, for further assistance.

I've registered, what details will other users be able to see?

Only former matriculated undergraduate or graduate students are able to access the community search function. Once you have registered, you will automatically be added to the search (unless you have opted-out) and other users will be able to see your name, college and year of matriculation.
