Researching Elizabethan Literature at the Elizabethan College

We are proud to be the custodians of Oxford's only Elizabethan College and of the work that our academics pursue in furthering our knowledge of the 'golden age' of literature. This period gave us the plays of Shakespeare, Jonson and Marlowe as well as the poetry of Spenser, Sidney and the metaphysical poets, and much more besides. Next month we will be starting a new appeal for a fully funded DPhil Studentship in Elizabethan Literature at Jesus and we are inviting alumni and supporters to a special event on 17 November - the anniversary of Elizabeth I's accession to the throne - exploring the research that is being undertaken here at Jesus with lots of discover about our founder and the politics and literature of her time, concluding with a chance to sample some 'sack' - Sir John Falstaff's drink of choice - ahead of the Jesus College Shakespeare Project productions of the two parts of Henry IV, in which the legendary roguish knight first appears.
