The talk will be entitled Jesus College and the World War 2 Secret Atom Bomb Project

Professor Tim Palmer

Many people are now familiar with the secret World War 2 project at Bletchley Park to break the German Enigma code. During the war, Jesus College took part in its own secret project - Tube Alloys - to build a prototype atom bomb. Unlike at Bletchley Park, Tube Alloys proved a complete failure and hence the story is less well known. However, the global political consequences of this failure resonate to the present day. In this talk, Professor Palmer will discuss the background to the project, the work that was done in the Leoline Jenkins laboratory (now the undergraduate Meyricke library), and some of the repercussions of this work after the end of WW2.
