Medicine

My name is Charlotte and I am a medical student, about to enter my clinical years. Over the last three years I’ve enjoyed getting involved in college life at Balliol, having been the JCR Vice-President and Captain of Coxes for BCBC. I currently cox for OUWLRC. Having worked in Balliol telethons, I’m looking forward to meeting some of Balliol’s alumnae, in person! I am excited to travel to China this summer to investigate the impact of the socio-political environment on Chinese garden structure and design. My interest in horticulture stems from my recent search into my family history: on investigating my Chinese heritage. Due to my degree, I first gravitated to the use of Chinese plants in medicine, but reading wider about the history of China, I developed an interest in the parallelisms of the gardens themselves and the Chinese social and political climate. I am very grateful to the Westerman Pathfinders Programme for enabling me to travel to and explore China for the first time!
