January 2024

‘Balliol has a long, proud history of offering sanctuary to scholars fleeing war and persecution in their home countries. Many alumni will have heard this sentence, and more like it, during this year’s telethon, when I was one of the callers. That so many alumni were passionate about giving to support scholarships for students seeking sanctuary made this telethon so rewarding. The joy we got from connecting with Old Members, hearing their stories and noting down their advice, strengthened the bond between students and alumni. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to speak with us and for so generously supporting Balliol students.’

Ben Falconer (2021, Ancient and Modern History)
