News and updates from Balliol College

July 2023

‘The Old Members I have met as a Pathfinder in Canada bear the fruits of life after Oxford, and with their dynamic conversation, successful careers, and good taste in food and wine, their example has been invaluable to me, making the step out of the College’s safe stone walls seem exciting, rather than overwhelming. As I kayak in the Toronto islands, hike on Mount Baker, and swim in Vancouver’s Lynn Canyon, I have been getting a taste for adventure, delighting in the road still before me. My research, into contemporary art’s environmentalism, has been just as formative. I am indebted to the Old Members who put me in touch with some inspiring leading lights in the field, and to all my hosts.’
