News and updates from Balliol College

October 2019

'It’s now the third week of my first term at Balliol. I’ve had a busy few weeks, split between welcoming new students and being welcomed myself. I’ve greatly appreciated the friendliness of the staff and Fellows, and I've been impressed by the intelligence and enthusiasm of the students. One of the pleasures of being a philosophy tutor is that since philosophy is only studied here as part of a joint degree, students approach it with varied sets of interests, informed by the other subjects they study - at present, ranging from classics to politics, economics, and computer science.'
Alex Bown, Associate Professor, Fellow and Tutor in Ancient Philosophy
