News and updates from Balliol College

September 2018

'After a busy summer looking after conference business, the Balliol Society weekend heralds the start of the new academic term. It’s great to see Old Members return to College, and nice this year to see some new faces amongst the crowd too. Behind the scenes the weekend is a busy one for the Front of House team. Meeting rooms need to be set up, silver needs to be collected from the safe and polished, there’s wine to be stood, linen to be pressed and then the main event: the grand dinner in Hall. It’s a full-on day, but when at the end a guest stops you to say that they’ve had a wonderful evening, it’s all worth it - and after all, where else but Balliol would you get to try fig-leaf ice cream?’
