It's the summer vacation - With three degree ceremonies done, and two more to go before August, we have been working hard in the Lodge to get the students ready to collect their degrees. We are sorry to see you leave, but congratulate everybody who is finishing their degree this summer.

VIDEO: Balliol in 1987
An admissions video shot by undergraduates in 1987 has been discovered in the College Office. It was produced and directed by David Price (1985) and Jonathan Hacker (1985) and features student testimonials about life in College. The voice-over is by Peter Snow (1958). Let us know if you spot yourself!

Memorial service for Lord Avebury
The Master joined the family of Lord Avebury, Eric Lubbock (Balliol 1945 and Honorary Fellow 2004-2016), for a memorial service on 30 June 2016.

New men's eight for Boat Club
Peter Wetherall (1978) has generously given the Balliol College Boat Club a new men’s eight, in honour of his 60th birthday. The boat is named 'Endeavour' because he feels it “sums up what rowing is about but was also the name of Captain Cook's ship which discovered the east coast of Australia in 1770.  I liked the symmetry of an Australian sending a boat called "Endeavour" back to England...”

WATCH: Donors' Day talks by Balliol Fellows
On 2 July, our donors attended a special day of talks with the Master, Chaplain, Fellows and students. They heard what their support achieves at Balliol, learned about interdisciplinary research in biology, politics, engineering science and particle physics, and visited an exhibition on Shakespeare at the Historic Collections Centre. Watch the highlights of the day including Professor David Wark on Particle Physics: A Balliol Graduate Scholar and the Nobel Prize; and Professor Denis Noble on A Systems Approach to Management Studies: How Does Biology Inform Economics
