'When Balliol set out to elect a new Master, we were seeking someone who would embody the College’s commitment to its values: academic excellence, social responsibility, and openness to the world. I am very pleased to announce the election of Seamus Perry, a marvellous embodiment of these ideals, at the end of a year-long selection process which has been rigorous and wide-ranging. Seamus will take up the post when Dame Helen Ghosh completes her term of office at the end of Trinity Term 2026. In the meantime, I would like to thank all those members and friends of Balliol, within and beyond our walls, who contributed their energy, ideas and goodwill into the election in a variety of ways. I am most grateful to you all.'
